Oakville Wellness TCM frequently asked questions

Booking

The easiest way is WhatsApp (+852 6734 9532) with your name, main concern and preferred date. We confirm within one business day. You can also call the clinic or use the online booking form.

We recommend booking 1–2 days ahead for your preferred time slot. For acute pain, WhatsApp to check same-day availability — we will try to accommodate.

Arrive five minutes early to complete a health form. Bring any Western medical reports, medication lists (including supplements) and lab or imaging results if available. Wear loose, comfortable clothing for examination.

Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance via WhatsApp or phone so we can offer the slot to another patient. We understand emergencies — contact us as early as possible.

Acupuncture

Most people describe a mild aching, tingling or heavy sensation rather than sharp pain. We use very fine needles — much thinner than injection needles. There may be a brief prick on insertion; during retention most patients find it comfortable, and many rest or fall asleep. Let Dr. Ng know if you are nervous — he can adjust his technique.

Yes. We use internationally standard single-use sterile needles, disposed of immediately after each patient. Hygiene and safety are fundamental to our practice.

Avoid strenuous exercise for about 2 hours; drink warm water; avoid alcohol on the day; keep needle sites dry for about 4 hours. Mild bruising is normal and usually fades within a few days.

Acupuncture during pregnancy requires special care — certain points are contraindicated. Please inform us when booking if you are pregnant; Dr. Ng will assess suitability and adjust the treatment plan accordingly.

Herbal medicine

Under the supervision of a qualified practitioner, herbal medicine is generally well tolerated. Dr. Ng prescribes according to your constitution and avoids ingredients that may cause discomfort. Some people experience brief digestive adjustment when starting — contact us promptly if you have any concerns so your formula can be adjusted.

Some herbs may interact with Western drugs and require careful management. Tell Dr. Ng about all medications and supplements at your first visit. He will advise on appropriate timing — typically at least one hour apart from Western medication.

Traditional decoctions vary in taste — some are bitter. We also offer concentrated granule formulas for easier preparation. Let Dr. Ng know your preference and he will accommodate where possible.

Treatment

Follow-up pacing varies by presentation and constitution. At the first visit a registered practitioner can outline possible service options and review plans. We do not promise improvement within a fixed number of sessions or months. Results vary.

TCM may support many chronic, functional and constitution-related concerns — skin conditions, internal medicine, gynaecological issues, pain and insomnia are common reasons for consultation. If you are unsure whether TCM is suitable, WhatsApp us with a brief description and we can offer initial guidance.

TCM services may proceed alongside Western care when appropriate. Tell Dr. Ng about current Western treatments. Do not stop prescribed Western medication without your doctor. We do not claim integrative care is always more effective.
